Amazon.com Product Description Similar to the smaller-screened SyncMaster series monitors, the Samsung 305T SyncMaster 30-Inch Large Format Digital LCD Monitor offers razor-sharp image clarity and a host of innovative features, but with some serious extra width. Take the next step with the 305T SyncMaster and bring the world into your home or office with greater clarity than before. The image quality of the massive, 30-inch screen offers wide viewing angles with bright colors for a very favorable viewing experience. With a wider viewing angle (178-degree vertical and horizontal viewing angle) Samsung makes sure you can see objects on your screen even when you're leaning over to grab a snack. With millions of colors bombarding your rods and cones, you'll be impressed with the clearer, brighter imagery that this wide spectrum monitor has to offer. Another impressive feature of the 305T is the pixel pitch, or the distance between pixels. This specification is usually measured in millimeters, and the smaller the pitch the sharper the image. Samsung offers a remarkable 0.250-millimeter pixel pitch for outstanding image clarity. The most talked about spec associated with LCD monitors is the measure of the difference of brightness levels between the brightest white and the darkest dark--the contrast ratio. With a contrast ration of 1000:1, this monitor assures crisp, easy-to-view images. Lastly, Samsung has designed this monitor with MagicContrast to process high-contrast ratios to guarantee an abundant palette of perfect color. Whether you're watching movies or videos with color-rich images, this monitor is the perfect choice. Other features include compatibility with all major operating systems and a quick 8ms response time that virtually eliminates the "blur" that is present in 25, 16, and 12ms monitors (this is especially good news for gamers). Speaking of a gaming, this monitor is compatible with the Nvidia Geforce 7900GT, GeForce 7800, GeForce 7600, Quadro FX3000 (AGP Type) ATI Radeon X1900XTX, Radeon X1900XT, and Radeon X1800XT graphic cards for some serious large-format gaming action. Connectivity is also important when choosing a monitor. The 305T features a Dual DVI digital link input video signal, a separate H/V sync-type input, and a DV-D (dual link) input connector.

2010-08-03 Update
On 2010-08-02, soon after writing 2010-08-02 review, the monitor died again. Since the monitor had come back from first repair, just one week later. Same sympton, flashing + vertical / horizontal streaks. Will ship to their service vendor, AMKOTRON again. Not only the initial reliability but also the repair quality are well under my expectation. I changed the rating from 4 stars to 1 star. I recommend not to buy for anyone who does not want to take a risk.

I bought this monitor on 2008-12-06 through Amazon and it had been fine until 2010-07-15. All of sudden, as others experienced, the monitor got flashing, horizontal, vertical streaks. On 2010-07-16, contacted to Samsung customer service center and given a free shipping label through an e-mail. On 2010-07-19, shipped to CA outsource, AMKOTRON and they received it on 2010-07-22 and shipped back to me 2010-07-23 and I received on 2010-07-27 via UPS. The problem was fixed. No more flashing, no more streaks. According to description, "Failure Description: REAR CABINET BROKEN, Repair Action: Replacement, Part: CONTROL DOOR". Contrary to other reviewers' experiences, the turnaround was quick and the outcome was satisfactory.
Great Display August 1, 2010 Christopher Vester (Afghanistan) I have had the pleasure of owning this magnificent display for a little over a year now. I had read many reviews from others who initially purchased their monitors only to find deficiencies in its pixels or received a non working monitor. To further make this problem worse it appears that Samsung was severely lacking in the customer service department. Despite all of this I went ahead and ordered one figuring that the majority of reviews that are written by consumers are going to be the negative type. I received my monitor and have not had a single issue with it since it's purchase.
The monitor is breathtakingly huge and takes a little getting used to for someone who is not used to working with 30 inch displays. The native resolution of 2560X1600 provides a beautiful landscape in anything your doing. I purchased the monitor to play PC games with and it has not disappointed me yet. Be warned however that running many games at the monitors 2560X1600 native resolution will require a significantly powerful graphics card to power it. The only thing this monitor lacks is an HDMI input and High Definition capabilities. Overall this is a solid display and I would recommend it to anyone who does not need HD capabilities.
High Failure Rate July 30, 2010 S. Malone (Pittsburgh, PA United States) I have had two Samsung 305T's for almost 3 years now. My first one died about 2 years after I got it and the replacement just died today (2 days shy of my warranty expiring). I really like the monitor but I have read too many stories that there is an issue with this model. I would stay far away from this and consider a Dell or Apple instead.
Excellent Monitor May 28, 2010 JKING (Atlanta, GA USA) I've had my Samsung 305T for over a year now - it's the best monitor that I've purchased to date.
You're in for a treat. But know the details. April 30, 2010 Jeffrey Wilcox (Seattle, WA USA) I absolutely love my Samsung 305Ts. I have owned my first unit for 2 years, and just recently purchased a second unit to move to a dual 30" displays setup.
The flat panels perform wonderfully and I would not consider any other display. First you need to understand:
- These are digital-only displays that have a single dual-link DVI input.
- This is NOT a TV replacement or HD resolution display - it is much higher resolution.
- You need a powerful graphics card
- There's no configuration options other than brightness. This is due to the digital configuration - use your computer system to calibrate if needed
Designed for
- Engineers and software developers
- Medical
- Designers
Not designed for
- Mom, dad, your typical users
- Gamers: resolution is too high for a high-frame rate experience on most hardware
If you try watching HD video on a 2560-pixel wide display, you realize how most displays have not progressed in years. DPIs remain the same, or lower, while with the Samsung you do have a 2K+ display.
As a professional software developer, I find the extra resolution very important. A single widescreen 305T initially replaced my dual-24" setup, until in April 2010 I moved to dual 30"'s.
One note:
Some early first generation units have a "fan/clicking noise" issue. Warranty handles these repairs.
